After making an easy transition from a successful military career to a more civilian one, I am now a company executive striving for motivation, progression and versatility in my field of technology, research and development. I am enjoying the opportunity of working in a fast-paced and critical sector with an unparalleled seat at the forefront of innovation in the tech space.
With a passion and the skills for working both alone and in a team, I pay close attention to detail as a leader. I want to give my staff a platform to reach their full potential at all times, and I facilitate this by constantly honing my own leadership and management skills. As the leader of The Virtulab, a tech innovations company, my skills also encompass business development and project & program management and delivery. I also bring my aircraft and UAV skills to the table for our drone mapping and aerial survey services.

With a military, aircraft and UAV background, my experts skills lie team building and leadership, aerospace, drones, technology and risk management. Since my work with The Virtulab and CG Tech, my skill set has grown to include a suite of business and B2B communication skills as well.
My first language is English, but I am also proficient in two additional languages, French and German, which allows me to communicate well with people and businesses all over the world.
Starting out as an RAF pilot in the military, I have gone on to work in the UAV space where we were required to innovate all the time. From my experience through both, I was able to lead The Virtulab to the launch of their first flagship product during the COVID-19 pandemic.
A company merger and expansion allowed me the opportunity to really develop my leadership and management skills. As a head of department, I oversaw everything from the delivery of aircraft operations services to clients to maximizing staff potential and goal-setting for the future of the company.
When the tragedy of 9/11 occurred shortly after I joined the Royal Air Force, it shaped my 13-year military career. My duties included overload operations in both Afghanistan and Iraq and, later, I worked on the new Remote Pilot systems in the United States.
After 13 years with the RAF, I moved into a civilian role in drone consultancy. My duties varied greatly from project and line management, all the way to approving flight requests. I was also responsible for keeping the civilian sector in the loop when it came to the military applications of air (UAS), land (UGV) and marine (USV/AUV) unmanned vehicles.
David followed a vocational path joining the RAF straight from school to pursue a first career as a pilot, however education and training have always been important.
As a continuation of the QWI ISR qualification, the MSc in airspace operations and tactics is ongoing.
As part of the transition from a successful military career to a civil role. An experience in project management outside of the military was key, PRINCE2 provided the principles and a backbone for which to rely on while experiencing and studying other Project management styles.
Completed the inaugural and sought after QWI ISR course which was developed in 2009 to focus on the capabilities and technology in both fighting and defending an enemy while focussing on Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance..
As part of expanding and improving both management and leadership skills this course was both remote and on location over a 1 year period.
As part of the Royal Air Force officer career path it is mandated to attend the ISS course to advance management, writing & reporting skills as well as understanding the management process in advanced and senior officer roles.
